Obituary
Lawrence H. Kiewel was born March 25, 1923 in Granite Falls, MN to parents William and Alma (Day) Kiewel. He died August 28, 2010 at Morningside Care Center in Alcester, SD at the age of 87 years.
Lawrence graduated from Sioux Falls Washington High School in 1941. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and then returned to Sioux Falls to farm. He married Darlene Hanno on September 25, 1943. The couple moved to Alcester in 1958. Lawrence farmed until his retirement in 1988. The couple moved into town and Lawrence continued to reside in Alcester until his death.
He is survived by his wife Darlene of Alcester; four sons, David Kiewel and wife Judy of Worthing, SD, Steven Kiewel and wife Rozeann of Alcester, Robert Kiewel and wife Sandy of Kallispell, Montana and Bradley Kiewel and wife Lori of Des Moines, IA; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters.
A visitation with family present will be held Tuesday, August 31 from 6:30PM to 8:00PM at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester. A private family service will follow on Wednesday. Burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Alcester.
