LaVonne N. Johnson went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at the age of 93 years at Bethesda of Beresford.  Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 18 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford, SD with visitation beginning one hour prior to services at 1:00 PM.  Memorials be directed to the Emmanuel Senior Choir.

LaVonne Natalie (Olson) Johnson was born May 6, 1928 in rural Valley Springs, SD.  She was the youngest of five children. She attended Pleasant Valley grade school, Valley Springs High School and Sioux Falls College.

LaVonne was baptized and confirmed at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church in Valley Springs where she later married Delmar Kenneth Johnson on November 19, 1955. They lived on the Johnson family farm south of Beresford, SD where they raised their three sons. They were members of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where LaVonne enjoyed many years of singing in the choir.  In 1985 the couple moved the house Delmar built for his parents to Beresford, where they lived until moving to Bethesda of Beresford.

LaVonne was a hard worker and enjoyed working as a school teacher, telephone company mail clerk and as a doctor's assistant, before marriage. Her role as a farm wife included everything from bringing the corn in from the field, to cooking huge meals for the corn-shellers. She provided a loving and fun environment for her family. After the boys left home, she worked at in-home health care and 2 local sewing factories.

LaVonne was everyone's mom and grandma; always kind, with gentle guidance. She loved people and nurturing relationships. "She was such a ray of sunshine!" is a sentiment held by so many that knew her. God was surely pleased when He watched how our mom lived her life, focused on Him. No matter how hard the circumstances, she always chose to be content and to be led by her faith. Her family, friends, flowers, dancing, painting, church activities, choir and the Twins brought her happiness. Her chocolate chip cookies, and countless acts of love, great and small, filled us with joy. The love she shared with us and those around her will never end and someday we will be together again. Rest in peace, Mom.

Survivors include her three sons, Bruce Delmar (Terri), Bryan Kenneth (Jean), and Bradley Paul (Jan); six grandchildren, Kelsi, Carrie, Taylor, Ethan, Caden, and Keith; two step-grandsons, Clay and Tim; five great-granddaughters, Kate, Nora, Ruby, Charlie, and Ava; one step-great-granddaughter, Brooklyn; and very special family friends Dave and Marilyn Aaronson.

LaVonne is preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Hulda (Paulson) Olson; siblings Adolphus, Norman, David, and Iona; and her husband Delmar.
