LaVon Teresa Johnson was born August 1, 1924 to parents Anthony and Mary (Reinartz) Weiland. She died January 6, 2013 in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 5 days. LaVon was raised on a farm south of Beresford. She attended Cleveland grade school and graduated from Beresford High School in 1942. She married Melvin R. Johnson on April 23, 1946. They had three children, Lois, Daniel and Dennis. LaVon was a homemaker for many years and then began working at Beresford Bakery and Chuck's Food Store. LaVon was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church where she belonged to the Catholic Daughters and Altar Society. She enjoyed gardening, baking, and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. LaVon will always be remembered for loving and caring for her family and grandchildren. Family was her greatest joy in life. She was preceded in death by her parents Anthony and Mary, husband Melvin, daughter-in-law Patricia Johnson, a brother Donald and her sister Dorothy. She is survived by a daughter Lois (Lyle) Savey, Beresford; sons, Daniel, Beresford and Dennis (Roxanne), Canton; grandchildren, Chris (Amelia) Savey, Beresford, Jason (Heidi) Savey, Yankton, Chad (Carrie) Savey, Harrisburg, Stephanie (Jesse) Voss, Parkston, Erin Johnson (Fiance Steve Ahlgrim), Beresford, Michael Johnson, Beresford, Matthew Johnson, Beresford, Jennifer (Jason) Nyhus, Sioux Falls, Kimberly (Jordan) Dykstra, Hull, IA and Steven Johnson, Sioux Falls; great grandchildren, Blake, Anna, Molly, Caitlyn, John, Emma and Carsyn Savey, Landen Dykstra, Kasen, Brynn, and Cambry Voss, Jace Gray, Jaxon and Emorie Ahlgrim and Lilly Johnson; sister Marie (Robert) Schumacher, sister-in-law Pauline Weiland and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford. Visitation with family present will be Tuesday at the church from 6PM to 8PM with a wake service at 7PM.
