Larry Dean Olson passed away Thursday, August 6, 2020, at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 5 days.  He suffered from COPD and renal failure during his final months.  His children were with him when he passed.

Larry was born January 2, 1942 to Chester and Avis (Anderson) Olson in Vermillion, South Dakota.  He grew up on a farm near Dalesburg with his two brothers and one sister.  Larry attended a two room school house in Dalesburg through the 8th grade.  He then went to Beresford where he graduated from high school.  Larry was confirmed at Dalesburg Lutheran Church.   After high school, he worked for the South Dakota Highway Department, helping with the creation of I-29.   Larry joined the Air Force Reserve, serving from 1964-1970.  Larry had a love of cars, and spent the majority of his career as a car salesman, retiring in January of 2019.  He had an avid love for football, his favorite team being Louisiana State University.

Larry married Ellen Osthus September 6, 1964 and resided in Sioux Falls.  They were married until December 1980 and had two children, Donna and Michael.   Larry married Joyce Bauder in 1987.  They resided in Sioux Falls, Rapid City, and Watertown, settling in Columbia, MO until their deaths.

Larry is survived by his children, Donna Olson and Michael Olson; his sister, Marabeth (Frank) Kumm; his brother, Curtis (Lynda) Olson; his step-daughter, Heidi Trowbridge; nieces, JoAnn (Kumm) Taylor and Krista (Olson) Aman Manchanea; nephews, Doug Olson and Charlie Olson; and grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joyce Bauder-Olson 7 weeks and 5 days prior; his brother, Charles Olson; his nephew, Jeffery Kumm and his niece, Andrea Kumm.

A memorial service will be 2PM Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford, SD. Burial with military honors will follow at Dalesburg Lutheran Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Wass Funeral Home.
