Joyce Harrington, daughter of Maurice and Margaret (Lass) Harrington, was born August 23, 1931 on a farm south of Beresford, SD. She died Novemebr 14, 201 at Bethesda of Beresford at the age of 79 years, two months and 21 days.
She grew up near Beresford, attended Beresford grade school and graduated from Wakonda High School in 1950. Joyce married Lloyd A. Peterson October 4, 1958 in Beresford.
Family was very important to Joyce. Her favorite pastime was playing cards with Lloyd and her sisters, Marian and Loreen, and their husbands Richard and Pete. It was always the men against the women and the score pads went on for years.
As many of you know her grandchildren were perfect according to Joyce! And according to her grandchildren, she was the perfect Grandma. Joyce was known to keep a stockpile of frozen banana bread in her freezer at all times. All grandchildren were given a loaf before leaving Grandmas house with strict orders to go directly home and call when you get there so she knows you made it safe. Summer time picnics were also important to Joyce and her potato salad was a must one batch with onions and one without onions for the little girls.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Lloyd; one daughter, Cindy Orr and her husband Rick; four grandchildren, Mike, Nikki and her husband Ben, Abbie and Allie; and one great-grandson August. Joyce is also survived by her best friend and sister, Loreen Weinnie Andal and her husband VerDell Pete of Centerville and three nieces that were like her daughters, Judy, Jill and Joni.
Her parents; brother, Delmar; sister and brother-in-law, Marian and Richard Kiepke preceded her in death.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10AM Wednesday at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford, continuing 5-8PM at the church with a prayer service at 7PM.
