Obituary

Kerry Keith Michael Lutter was born June 17, 1952 in Mitchell, SD to Bernard and Clara (Kortmeyer) Lutter.  He attended Plainview Country School walking up hill both ways for one day. Following the closing of the country school, he went to Gann Valley Elementary School. Growing up with five brothers and a sister on their family farm, they found loads of mischief and kept their mom and dad guessing as to what they would do next. For those that spent time with Kerry you are likely to have heard a story or two of their shenanigans.

When he was a junior in high school, he started attending Wessington Springs High School where he met some of his lifelong friends. They frequently made their way to Lane Dance Hall where he met his future wife, Janet Hippen. Following high school graduation, he attended Southern State college for one semester before returning to Buffalo County to join his father's farming operation.

On September 21, 1971, Kerry and Janet were married in Kimball SD. They continued to farm for 24 years and were blessed with 5 children.  After a head-to-head fight with a cow that led to a spinal injury Kerry hung up his farming belt and accepted the offer from his Uncle Fred to join his insurance agency for Farmers Insurance Company in Sioux Falls. Kerry worked closely with Uncle Fred to grow the agency and continued after Fred's passing for a total of 26 years. Following Kerry's retirement from the insurance agency Kerry found his favorite job of helping a family friend with yearly harvest. He enjoyed the return to farming seasonally and looked forward to it each year.

Kerry will be remembered for his lively stories, almost never-ending projects and gift of gab. He passed peacefully at home with family after a tough battle with liver failure.

Kerry is survived by his wife Janet, five children; Travis (Erin) Lutter of Fort Worth, TX, Michelle (Keith) Anderson of El Paso, TX, Suzanne Johnson of Lake Poinsett, SD, Brandi (James) Neumayr of Beresford, SD, and Tristan Lutter of Beresford, SD; 13 grandchildren: Jourdan, Hayden, Paxton, Ronan, Kameo, Krimson, Kayla, Idina, Quentin, Gavin, Connor, Kaitlyn, and Lincoln; as well as his brothers and sister; Lloyd (Jerri), Tim (Janet Ray), Deniel (Mary), Lauree (Don) Scott, Jim (Cindy), sister in-laws; Donna Lutter and Betty Klopf and many nieces and nephews.

Kerry was proceeded in death by his parents Bernard and Clara, brother Jerome (Butch), in-laws Lavern and Audrey Hippen, sister and brothers-in-law Marilyn and Dale Murphy, Larry Hippen and Mike Klopf, niece Christi Laverack, numerous aunts and uncles and specifically Fred Lutter who he was especially close to.
