Kathryn Lynn Eberle Nielson was born September 20, 1960 in Viborg, South Dakota to Duane "Pete" and Ellen (Lounsbery) Eberle. She died July 14, 2025 at Bethany Home in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 64 years.

Kathy was raised and educated in Centerville. Following graduation, she was a nurse aide at the Good Samaritan nursing home (now Centerville Care and Rehab) and later attended Lake Area Technical College in Watertown. She lived in Brookings and Arizona and back to Centerville, working in early child development, healthcare and hospitality. During that time, she became mom to Becky and Cody. She earned her certified nurse assistant qualification and worked in long term care facilities in Centerville, Brookings, Sioux Falls and New Jersey, leaving healthcare after an injury and became a cashier at Walmart. She moved to Colorado in 2017 to be closer to her children and grandchildren, who adoringly called her "Mema." Kathy returned to South Dakota in 2019, continuing to work at Walmart, where she enjoyed chatting with customers and seeing old friends as they shopped. She retired in 2022 due to health issues, eventually moving into Bethany Home assisted living where she was active on the residents council. She was an avid bingo player and valued the new friends she made there.

Kathy adored spending time with her son and granddaughter in Sioux Falls, going out to restaurants whenever they could. She stayed connected with family and friends over the phone and on social media and appreciated their kindness and encouragement, especially during low times. Her great-granddaughter was the apple of her eye.

Her parents, grandparents and one sister, Pamela Boterman, preceded her in death.

Grateful for having shared her life is her daughter, Becky Schut of Denver, CO; son, Cody Schut of Sioux Falls; granddaughter and namesake Kathryn "Kosmo;" grandson, Noah; great-granddaughter, Athenna; sister, Paula (Phillip) Vitakis of Perryman, MD; niece, Heather (Jody) Hadley; three nephews, Travis Boterman, Steven (Stephanie) Vitakis and Jason (Elizabeth) Vitakis; uncle, Dennis (Cheryl) Lounsbery of Beresford; and many cousins across the miles.

Funeral services will be 2PM Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Wass Funeral Chapel, 400 Wisconsin Street, Centerville, SD. Visitation will be at the chapel 5-7PM Friday with a 7PM prayer service.
