Mass of Christian Burial for Karen Katherine Lounsbery will be held at 10 am on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford. Visitation will be Friday, February 14, 2020 from 5-8 pm at St Teresa Catholic Church with reciting of the rosary at 6:45 pm and a short prayer service at 7 pm.
Karen Lass was born March 14, 1942 to James and Francis (Kukar) Lass. She died February 10, 2020 at Avera Prince of Peace in Sioux Falls at the age of 77 years and 11 months old.
Karen was raised in Beresford, SD and graduated from Beresford High School in 1960. She graduated from Stewart's School of Cosmetology and then married Gary Lounsbery June 16, 1962 at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford. Karen ran a hair styling salon out of their home for several years. She and her husband Gary, farmed and raised a family on the family homestead north of Beresford.
Karen was active at St. Teresa Church and St. Teresa Altar society. She enjoyed time spent with friends at Extension Club and monthly card club. She found pleasure in baking, crafting and sewing. Everyone loved her snickerdoodles and pie. Family was very important to Karen. Some of her greatest joys were spending time with family at her traditional large holiday gatherings.
She is survived by daughters, Ann (Ken) Allender of Sioux Falls and Julie (Diann Grupe) Lounsbery of Peoria, AZ; sons, Brian (Mindy Voss) Lounsbery and Dr. Mark (Michelle) Lounsbery of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren, Kevin (Kaija Pedersen), Michael and Zachary Allender, Kelci Grupe, and Michelle, Nicholas, Laurentis, Alexis and Meridis Lounsbery; sisters Patricia Teeman of Sioux Falls and Jo Duffy of Oldham, SD; brother-in-law Larry (Lois) Lounsbery; as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; five siblings and their spouses: Raymond (Pat) Lass, Gene (Connie) Lass, Marjorie (Richard) Bellach, Mary (Zane) Pilker, and Donna Lass; and her brothers-in-law John Teeman and James Duffy.
In lieu of flowers, Karen's family requests a donation to be made to The American Heart Association,
The American Diabetes Association or to a charity of your choice.
