Karen Marie (Larson) Isakson was born February 7, 1942 in Vermillion, SD to Gordon and Emma (Johnson) Larson. She died May 10, 2011 in Sioux Falls at the age of 69 years, three months and three days. She was raised in the Roseni area and attended country school at Brule. Her family lived in Hayward, CA from 1956-1958 where she attended Strobridge School and was confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church. They returned to South Dakota and Karen graduated from Beresford High School in 1960. Karen received her LPN diploma at Lowell School in Sioux Falls and worked for Dr. Nutter in Beresford. She married Robert Isakson September 15, 1962 at Roseni Lutheran Church. Karen worked in long term medical care for the rest of her career. She was the administrator at Southmore Nursing Home in Sioux Falls before her family moved to Rapid City in 1976. Karen worked for a home medical supply company, was a home health care provider and was a nursing home CNA trainer until she retired in the mid 1990's due to health reasons. She and Robert moved back to Sioux Falls in December 2010 to be closer to family. Karen enjoyed the many visits from family and friends over the years. She liked going for drives with Robert in the Black Hills and was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and was a great baker. She won many blue ribbons for her stitchery and baking including Best of Show for her oatmeal cookies (Emma's recipe) at the Central States Fair. She loved her family, singing to her grandchildren and was very proud of her many family members that have served our country in the military.
