Juel Hofer, 79 of Centerville, SD died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009 at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls. His memorial service will be 2PM Thursday, at First Baptist Church in Viborg, SD. Inurnment with military honors will be at Riverview Cemetery in Centerville. The family will be present at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville Wednesday from 7-8:30PM followed by a prayer service at 8:30PM.
Juel David Hofer was born January 12, 1930 in rural Freeman, SD to David and Kate (Wipf) Hofer. He attended Valley School, District #7 in rural Freeman and graduated from Freeman High School in 1947. Juel proudly served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged.
Juel was united in marriage to Darlene Joy Brodland on April 6, 1958 in rural Freeman. They farmed in Mayfield Township of rural Viborg and Irene. He raised and fed livestock. His passion was buying and feeding cattle.
He enjoyed taking his family traveling, fishing, boating and waterskiing. Juel loved spending time with his grandchildren. He and Darlene spent many happy winters at Lemon Tree Estates in Mission, Texas. Juel also enjoyed his retirement in Centerville, especially his early morning coffee with his friends.
Remaining to cherish his life and memory are his wife, Darlene of Centerville; two sons, Roger (Jackie) of Centerville and Warren of Aurora, CO; four grandchildren, Nichole (Scott) Woizeschke, Joshua Hofer, Marlee Hofer and Jacob Hofer; brother, Jennis of Sioux Falls; two sisters, Darleen (Harold) Jensen of Irene and Joyce Jorgensen of Parker; sister-in-law, Alma Hofer of Bridgewater and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law, Sophia; brother, Dellis; two brothers-in-law, Oscar Sayler and Robert Jorgensen.
