John Otten, Jr. of Spink, SD, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 8, 2015 at his home. He was born April 22, 1940 in Canton, SD to parents John and Gladys Otten. John married Diane Hughes on February 14, 1975. Though he spent most of his life farming, he ventured down a new path in 1997 when he and Diane purchased the Spink Café. With the help of many family and friends, they were open for business in 1998. Junior was a fun-loving husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. He enjoyed playing cards, listening to and collecting music, reading, greeting the customers at the café and spending time with family and friends, most often cracking jokes. He will always be remembered for his cowboy hat, cowboy boots, pearl snap shirts, Elvis collectibles, and as the patriarch of the Spink Café. Diane, the love of his life, died August 2, 2014. Left behind to cherish his memory his children and grandchildren, Wanda Yager and Dillon, Desiree, Devin and Dasia, Madison, SD; Wil Otten and Ron Dowse, Knoxville, TN; Sam and Rhonda Otten, Skylar, Kainan and Ashton, Spink, SD; as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, mother and father-in-law and five brothers-in-law. A memorial gathering was held May 11 at the Spink Café
