Obituary

John A. Edblom, 74, of Beresford, died April 17, 2007 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. John Alvin Edblom was born July 22, 1932 in Beresford, SD to Alvin and Alice (Jacobson) Edblom. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Beresford High School in 1950. He worked on the farm until he was drafted into the US Army. He served as a Sergeant in the infantry during the Korean Conflict. John married Beverly Swanson on June 8, 1953. Following his discharge, he returned to Beresford and farmed until his retirement in 2003. John was a member of the Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church. He enjoyed farming, riding horses and liked having coffee with his friends. He was a devoted husband and father who cherished the time spent with his family. John is survived by his wife, Beverly Edblom; one son, Michael Edblom of Beresford; three daughters, Vicki (Mark) Hogen of Hayden, ID, Jan (Todd) Gereau of South Sioux City, NE and Alison (Shawn) Potts of Farmington, MN; five grandchildren, David, Melissa and Kari Hogen, Jackson Gereau and Alec Potts; two sisters, Carol Thompson of Gresham, OR and Joan (Everett) Nygaard of Beresford. He is preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Pat Gale; two brothers-in-law, Dale Pedersen and Bob Thompson; special friends, Swede Merrick, George Hansen and George Olson. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford. Burial will follow at Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church Cemetery, rural Beresford with military honors provided courtesy of Beresford VFW Post 2875 and American Legion Post 72. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with the family present from 7:00-8:00 p.m.
