John G. Bickett was born March 3, 1927 in rural Lincoln County, SD, near Beresford, to parents John and Elvira (Olson) Bickett. He died June 2, 2009 at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 2 days.

John attended Mt. Hope rural school and Beresford High School. He entered the United States Army and served at the end of World War II. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Beresford. John worked for Sioux Steam until starting M&M, which he operated until his retirement in the early 1990s. He resided in Beresford until his death.

John was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church and the Beresford VFW. He enjoyed going to coffee, visiting with his friends, music and playing the guitar.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers.

He is survived by six sisters: Bernice Jorgensen, Lennox, SD, Lillian Biehl, Plymouth, MN, Adeline McIlvenna, Sioux Falls, SD, Irene (James) Latendresse, Camden, TN, Marie Gorman, Beresford, and Dorothy Kirby, Bridgewater, SD; two brothers: Robert Bickett, Centerville, SD and Gerald Bickett, Lebanon, OR; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00AM, Saturday, June 6, 2009 at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Beresford, with burial at St. John Catholic Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation with family present will be Friday from 6PM to 8PM and a wake service at 7:00PM at the church.
