Funeral services for Joan Stubbs will be Thursday, August 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at Nathanael Lutheran Church in Alcester. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Wass Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Joan Stubbs was born December 7, 1930 in Fairview, South Dakota to Joel B. and Lillie L. (Fenske) Strasser. She died August 19, 2007 at her home in Alcester, SD at the age of 76 years, eight months and 12 days. Joan was raised in the Fairview area and graduated from Augustana Academy in Canton. She attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls for two years prior to teaching 2nd grade in Archer, Iowa for two years. Joan married Douglas Stubbs March 22, 1951. They moved to Sacramento, CA where their two children were born and Joan worked for the state of California in the Department of Employment. They lived in Covina, CA before moving to Denver, CO where they made their home for 30 years. Joan worked at Central Bank and US Bank. She and Doug retired to Alcester in 1992. Joan was a member of Nathanael Circle and RSVP Group. She enjoyed making ceramics and playing bridge. Survivors include her husband, Doug Stubbs of Alcester; one daughter, Teresa Kay (Michael) Johnson of Lynnwood, WA; one son, Daniel Robert Stubbs of Denver, CO; two grandchildren, Jason Johnson and Stephanie Johnson; her twin brother, Joel (Lavonne) Strasser of Sioux Falls; one sister, Almarie (Glenn) Ingrebrigtson of Canton.
