Obituary

Jerry John Isaak was born February 12, 1941 in Parkston, SD to Eltor and Lydia (Rodnur) Isaak. He died January 15, 2010 in Centerville, SD at the age of 68.

Jerry graduated from Mitchell High School in 1959. He joined the US Navy upon graduation and served in the Far East for 2 years. Upon returning stateside he was stationed in Boston where he attended Boston University. When Jerry was discharged he returned to South Dakota and graduated from SDSU in 1968 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He married Shirley Trapp in 1966. To this union were born two sons, Daniel and Lance. Jerry married LaVonne Knutson Mammenga in 1991. He worked for a number of companies before buying Westburg Fertilizer in 1980. Jerry ran the business until ill health forced him to sell out in 2007.

Jerry was an active member of the Centerville United Church of Christ, the Centerville Community Foundation, American Legion, I.O.O.F, and a past member of the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and City Council. He was a gardener and shared most of the produce he raised. He also enjoyed reading, playing ping pong, tennis, and pool, and playing cards in his off time.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father Eltor and his brother Thomas.

His survivors include his wife LaVonne of Centerville; mother Lydia of Mitchell; two sons: Daniel and Sandelee Boylan and her children Corin, Ariel and Samantha of Boise, ID, Lance and wife Shelley and their children Juniper and Ren of Kalispell, MT; step daughters Michelle Smith and husband Dave of Sioux Falls, Gail Sheets , and husband Brent of St. Charles, IL and Gwen Larsen and husband John of Wentworth, SD; grandchildren Brooke and Nicholas Adams and Alex Smith; sisters Shirley Piearson of Mitchell and Mary Tubbs of Denver, CO; brother Donald and wife Ruth of Phoenix, AZ; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:00AM, Thursday, January 21, 2010 at the Centerville United Church of Christ with burial to follow at Holland Cemetery, rural Centerville. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2PM to 5PM at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville and resuming at the church with family present from 6PM to 8PM with a prayer service at 7PM.
