On Roosevelt's Thanksgiving, November 22, 1945, Jeanette Rosezell was born to Marvin and Martha (Sommervold) Jamtgaard in Union County, South Dakota. She passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at USD Sanford Medical Center, Sioux Falls, South Dakota and will be buried at Nora Cemetery, rural Alcester, South Dakota. Jeanette attended Gothland School District #70 through eighth grade and graduated from Beresford High School in 1963. She continued her education at Augustana College where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education in 1967. After teaching junior high mathematics in Beloit, WI and Colorado Springs, CO, she met and married A. Michael Silva in 1970. The their family of three boys traveled and established homes in San Antonio, TX; Montgomery, AL; Japan, and then returning home to Beresford, SD. Jeanette is survived by her three sons Michael (Laurie) Silva from Nashville, TN; Nathan (Kirsten) Silva from Nashville, TN; and Richard (Jennifer) Silva from Seattle, WA. Grandchildren are Maris Silva, Gavin Silva and Oliver Silva. Her three sisters are Janice (Gary) Coleman, Linda (Gary) Cummings and Lil (Dan) Holm. As a lifelong member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church she gave generously of her time and talents. During her 69 years, she served in WELCA, taught Sunday school and led Bible studies. Jeanette was passionate about education and taught as a substitute teacher at both Beresford Schools and University of South Dakota. She also held offices in GFWC. Recently, she joined the quilting group and also delivered meals on wheels as much as she could. A new challenge was her participation in spreading awareness in local communities dealing with domestic violence. Her nurturing spirit could be seen care-giving in the community to neighbors and at Bethesda. Counted-Cross stitch, collecting cook books and experimenting with recipes, along with enjoying coffee parties with friends were some of her favorite pastimes. Jeanette's door was always open for guests to sit and have a bottomless cup of coffee. She loved playing games like Scrabble, Chicken Foot Dominoes, Sequence, or card games with friends while enjoying homemade goodies. Jeanette saw the good that would come in all scenarios. Her steadfast love, keen wisdom, gentle wit, and gracious smile nudged us all in a better direction. She embodied the butterfly effect where a slight touch, a brief anecdote, or a simple nod sent ripples of goodness through the lives of those around her. Just as she surrounded herself with symbols of the butterfly, may we all adorn our own lives with their subtle yet powerful impetuses toward rebirth. As Jeanette and her butterflies take to wing, we are left to propagate her love, wisdom, gentleness, and beauty in the world. Funeral services will be 10AM Friday, May 29, 2015 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. Visitation will be 4-8PM Thursday at the church with the family present from 5-7PM. The family requests memorials to Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
