Janet O'Connell Green was born March 18, 1932 on a farm south of Hawarden, IA to parents Henry and Viola (Marienau) Weyen. She died April 14, 2012 in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 80 years and 26 days. Janet attended Preston country school #3 in Plymouth County, IA. March 13, 1952 she married Raymond O'Connell at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Emmett, SD. Following his death in 1982 Janet married Floyd "Hank" Green October 3, 1986 in Elk Point, SD. He died in 2004. In addition to raising her five children, Janet worked on their farm, at Raven's Industry, Morningside Care Center dietary in Alcester for 15 years and Custom Coils. When she wasn't working, Janet liked doing crosswords, playing dominos and cards and was an expert at crocheting. Survivors include her three sons, Phillip (Chris) O'Connell of Foreston, MN, Robert (Jackie) O'Connell and Dennis (Jennifer) O'Connell all of Beresford; two daughters, Christi (Mike) Gant of Council Bluffs and Carol (Steve) Sommervold of Alcester; five grandchildren, Matt (Jessica) Sommervold, Benjamin (Jennifer) Gant, Chad (Brianna) Sommervold, Nick O'Connell and Brandon O'Connell; three great-grandchildren, Brayden, Lexi and Cade; two brothers, Dick (Karen) Weyen of Hawarden and Ron (Peg) Weyen of Alcester. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and one sister-in-law, Velda Weyen. Mass of Christian burial for Janet will be 10AM Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford. Visitation with family present is 5-7PM Monday at the church with a prayer service at 7PM.
