Jana Elizabeth Reiss was born June 30, 1952 in Akron, Iowa to parents Arthur and Stella (Fickbohm) Ludwig. She died December 29, 2014 at her home near Alcester at the age of 62 years. Jana was raised on the Ludwig family farm and attended country school before graduating from Alcester High School in 1970. She met Larry Reiss in 1971 and they were married for nearly 34 years, running a machine shop business together, before Larry passed away in December 2005. Jana was a kind and gentle wife, mother, and grandmother, always interested in what was going on in everyone's life. A lady of many talents, Jana was a gifted painter, a skilled seamstress, and an avid gardener. After Larry passed, she went back to school to earn her nursing degree and later became a Registered Nurse. She was delighted to serve the communities of Beresford and Sioux Falls with her gifts. She ended her professional career at Avera Behavioral Health. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Larry. Survivors include her son Erick Reiss and wife Tracey of Worthing, SD; daughter Katie Knutson and husband David of Tea, SD; son Nathan Reiss and wife Carrie of Mankato, MN; and daughter Emily Walther and husband Wayde of Alcester, SD; 11 grandchildren, one brother Bruce Ludwig, and two sisters, Mary Lee VanBallegooyen, and Laurie Lindquist. Memorial services will be held at 10AM Friday, January 2, 2015 at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, Beresford. Visitation will be 5-8PM Thursday at the church.
