James H. Thormodsgard was born April 6, 1940 in Hudson, SD to Ingert and Clara (Johnson) Thormodsgard. He died February 16, 2014 at Sanford Hospice Foundation Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 10 days. He attended Pleasant Hill Country School and graduated from Alcester High School in 1958. Upon graduation he moved to Seattle, WA where he worked for Boeing Aircraft and helped assemble the Boeing 707 that carried President John F. Kennedy back from Dallas, TX after the assassination. In 1960 he moved to Janesville, WI where he worked for the Beloit Iron Works. He was drafted in 1962 into the US Army serving in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1964. He worked as a salesman for Fountain IHC until 1966. Jim provided custom stacking and moving for the surrounding community. He began farming in 1976 with his brother, Gene. Jim also drove truck for Midwest Coast. After retiring he worked part time for FSA. Jim was a member of Romsdal Lutheran Church where he held several offices. He enjoyed many fishing trips with his friends and family, traveling, and he especially liked spending his winters in Yuma, AZ. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; stepchildren, Linnette (Randy) Albers, Jeff Larsen and Sheryl (Dan) Rickett; brother, Gene (Carol Ann) Thormodsgaard, sister, Carol (Lester) Voegeli; three grandchildren, Kristen (Andy) Carr, Darren (Becky) Albers and Courtney Rickett; two great-grandchildren, Molly and Connor Carr and one due in March; one sister-in-law, Rachel Rose, one brother-in-law, Paul Scarbrough and two nephews, Tyson and Trent Thormodsgaard. His parents and one stepson, David Larsen, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be 2PM Wed., Feb. 19th at Romsdal Lutheran Church, rural Beresford. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with the family present from 6-8PM and a prayer service at 7PM.
