Obituary

James A. Scott "Scotty"was born April 20, 1942 at Dakota Hospital in Vermillion, South Dakota to Zier Albert and Evelyn (Nelson) Scott. He died June 4, 2016 at his home in Alcester, SD at the age of 74 years.

Jim was raised on the family farm north of Vermillion. He attended Greenfield Public School in Clay County and graduated from Alcester High School. In addition to working on the family farm, Jim and his brothers would help area neighbors on their farms too. He attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and in 1962 started work at Electro-Magic in Vermillion. Jim was married to Kathy Doll on August 30, 1969 at Dalesburg Lutheran Church.

Jim worked in the cleaning equipment industry for 50 years. He became a partner at Alkota Cleaning Systems in Alcester where he loved his job in sales and marketing. Jim will be remembered for his bright spirit and easy sense of humor.

He enjoyed many outdoor activities like trap shooting, playing golf, hunting and bird watching. Jim liked attending auctions and collecting Hull vases and loved to watch the USD Coyotes games. He was active with his church where he taught Sunday school and was a lay minister.

Grateful to have shared his life is his wife of 46 years, Kathy; daughter, Susan; brother, Gary (Dawn) all of Alcester; his grandchildren by heart, Drew and Sadie Jensen and Erik and Rie Barnes; three nephews, Jeremy and Justin Scott and Don Offerdahl; niece, Deb Offerdahl; four great-nephews, Graham, Patrick, Foster and Eric; sister-in-law, Cheryl Offerdahl and his Alkota family near and far. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Mary Scott; brother, Delmer E. Scott and brother-in-law, Don Offerdahl.

Funeral services will be 2PM Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at the Alcester United Church of Christ. Visitation will be 3-8PM Tuesday at the church with the family present from 6:30-8PM with a prayer service at 7:45PM. The family requests memorials to the Delmer and Mary Scott Scholarship Fund.
