Irene E. Carnes was born February 27, 1912 in Centerville, SD to parents Wilbert and Myrtle (Crane) Cue. She died March 29, 2007 at the Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD at the age of 95 years. Irene graduated from Centerville High School and studied music for one year at Yankton College. She then began teaching piano in Centerville. She married Loyal Carnes on June 7, 1934 in Centerville. The couple lived in Beresford, SD where Irene continued piano teaching in their home for 47 years. After retiring from teaching Irene worked at Bethesda Nursing Home for 8 years. Loyal passed away on April 21, 1992. Irenes greatest love was music. She took great pride in the fact that several of her music students excelled to the level of professional musicians. Irene was a member of the Rebeccah Lodge, Musical Arts Club, Beresford Study Club and the Zion United Methodist Church where she played the piano and organ for the church choir for 40 years and was involved with the Church Circle. She loved gardening, sewing and quilting. Irene was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will live on in our hearts forever. Survivors include three sons: Frederic and companion June Baugh of Fernley, NV, Douglas and wife Carol of Omaha, NE and Mark of Lennox, SD; two daughters: Pauline Ronan and Marlys Lubash and husband Larry, all of Omaha, NE; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; sister Leona Shumaker of Howard, SD; daughter-in-law Betty Carnes of Beresford, SD and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Loyal, son Curtiss, granddaughters Becky Carnes and Cindy Carnes Mayberry; sisters Mabel, Julia, Margaret, and Verena Mae, her brother Lewis, and two sons-in-law Don Ronan and Hiram Tidwell. Funeral services will be 10AM, Monday, April 2, 2007 at the Beresford Zion United Methodist Church with burial at the Beresford Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Sunday from 6PM to 8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
