Mass of Christian Burial for Ilene Griffin will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2007 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Centerville, SD. Visitation will be Friday, August 3, 2007 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. The family will be present from 6:00-8:00 p.m.; there will be a wake service at 7:00 p.m. Ilene Griffin was born December 12, 1901 in Mayfield, SD to Francis and Margaret (Ryan) Griffin. She died July 21, 2007 at Centerville Good Samaritan Center in Centerville, SD at the age of 105 years, seven months and nine days. Ilenes mother died when she was two weeks old. She was raised by her grandparents until 1908 when she rejoined her father in Centerville. Ilene graduated from McKennan School of Nursing in 1932. She worked as a nurse and cared for her step-mother until her death in 1941. Ilene continued to work part time as a nurse and cared for her father until his death in 1954. Ilene was a very active lifetime member of the Mother of Mercy/Good Shepherd Catholic Church. She was a member of the Centerville Garden Club for 60 years and a member of the Centerville Senior Citizens. She was honored as an outstanding Citizen of the Year. Her family was her community. She offered her time and medical services to those that could not afford medical care. Ilene had a very kind and giving heart to everyone she met. She was truly a joy to everyone that had the opportunity to know her. She is survived by her niece, Beverly Avis and her husband Edward of Arvada, CO and many friends. Her parents and one brother, Francis preceded her in death. The family requests memorials to Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
