Ihlene Renata Marjorie Rud was born May 1, 1918 in Centerville, SD to Martin and Bertha (Groseth) Rud. She passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Bethesda of Beresford at the age of 96 years, two months and 14 days. She grew up on a farm near Centerville and graduated from Centerville High School. After Ihlene received her degree in education from Augustana College in Sioux Falls in 1940 she taught at country schools. She married Stanley Fillingsness on June 14, 1941; they lived and raised their six children in Beresford. Ihlene's life interest had always been music, especially piano and vocal; she taught many vocal and piano students. She directed choir at Emmanuel Lutheran Church for 25 years and sang at numerous weddings and over 100 funerals. Ihlene was the founder of the Beresford Musical Arts Club. She performed and sang in numerous musical concerts including The Messiah. She and Stan were active in the Kong Olav V Sons of Norway in Canton, SD. They enjoyed traveling to Norway and other points of interest. She also enjoyed cooking, entertaining, gardening, sewing, knitting, and rosemaling. Grateful for sharing her life are her children, Geoff (Jeanne Baillie) of Beresford, Steve (Charlotte) of Omaha, NE, Tami (Larry) Orr of Beresford, Ross of Minneapolis, MN and Renee (Donn) Gasner of Sun Prairie, WI; 12 grandchildren, Denise Mills, Ann Overdorf, David Fillingsness, Trevor Fillingsness, Matthew Fillingsness, Andrew Fillingsness, Wendy Guzman, Jessica Seivert, Lee Fillingsness, Lisa Wise, Jocelyn Gasner and Olivia Gasner; 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, sister, "Benji" Bernielle Shelton of St. Louis, MO and brother, J. Martell (Jean) Rud of Minnetonka, MN. Her husband, Stanley; daughter, Candice; sister, Mildred; and her parents preceded her in death. Funeral services will be 10AM Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. Visitation will be 1-8PM Friday at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with the family present from 6-8PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Beresford Musical Arts Club Scholarship Fund.
