Hilma C. Ludwig was born September 7, 1926 in rural Hudson, SD to parents Oscar and Helga (Ottem) Erickson. She died April 3, 2011 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 26 days. Hilma graduated from Canton High School. She moved to Washington State and worked in the shipyards during World War II. She moved back to South Dakota after the war and married Harvey Thompson in 1948. The couple farmed near Canton, SD until Harvey's death in 1971. She later married Art Ludwig and lived on a farm south of Alcester until Art;s death in 2006. Hilma has lived in Alcester until the present time. Hilma was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was currently associated with Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester. She was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Alcester and was a past president. She was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family and friends. Hilma was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, 1 grandson, and 8 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son Perry Thompson and wife Nancy of Valparaiso, NE; her daughter Teresa Goehring of Sioux Falls, SD; 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:00AM, Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester with burial to follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hudson. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
