Obituary

Henry W. Fickbohm was born May 25, 1904 in rural Union County, South Dakota to parents George and Inez (Shuck) Fickbohm. He died June 7, 2006 at the Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD at the age of 102 years. Henry married Alveda Peterson of Alcester, SD on January 9, 1929. The couple resided in rural Union County, SD where Henry was a lifelong farmer. Alveda died on August 19, 1976. Henry continued to reside on the farm until October of 2005 when he moved to the Bethesda Home. Henry was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church and later became a member of Union Creek Lutheran Church where he was active in many different areas. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Ralph, Lloyd, and Merle, 2 sisters, Evelyn Larson and Edith Buum Beck and grandson Marlin Don Fickbohm. Henrys survivors include two sons: Daryl Fickbohm and wife Beverly of Alcester and Donald Fickbohm and wife Joan of Sioux Falls; 5 grandchildren: Doyle, Alcester, Alan and wife Darla, Pierre, SD, Barry and wife Marcie of Manhattan, Kansas, Suzanne of Cherry Valley, IL, and Michelle and husband Duane of Hot Springs, SD; 10 great grandchildren: Chad, Carrie, Candi and Corey Fickbohm, Matthew and Elizabeth Fickbohm, Jocelyn and Ethan Fickbohm, and Kyran and Joshua Stanley; 4 sisters: Violet Siemers and Iva Siemers of Alcester, Wilma Siemers of Sioux Falls and Opal Keiser of Hawarden; 2 brothers: Roy of Austin, MN and Clarence of Barstow, CA; brother-in-law Clarence Larson of Beresford, ; 2 sisters-in-law Vergene and Irene Fickbohm of Akron, IA; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11AM, Monday, June 12 at Union Creek Lutheran Church, rural Akron, IA with burial at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 5PM to 8PM with family present from 7PM to 8PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
