IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Henry "Barney"
Blauth
August 31, 1948 – August 13, 2021
Henry "Barney" Bernard Blauth peacefully entered his eternal home at 4:15 PM August 13 th , 2021 at the Hawarden hospital. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Barney was born August 31 st , 1948 in McKeesport, PA. When he was six, Barney moved to Southern California with his parents and three sisters. There he enjoyed surfing in the ocean, fishing off the pier, and riding the rides at the newly-opened Disneyland. In 1968 he joined the Army, serving as a tank commander stationed in Germany until 1970.
Barney met the love of his life, Julie Newman in Phoenix, AZ and they were married on June 22nd, 1974. They moved to South Dakota shortly after, where he was embraced by his new church and community. Barney became a father in 1976, when Andrew was born. Kevin followed three years later, completing the family.
Julie, Barney and their two sons lived near Big Springs Church. Because of Barney's commitment to follow Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, he was baptized by his good friend, Pastor Ken Lewis. He loved that his closest neighbors were Julie's parents, Rich and June. Barney had a passion for working with kids and was involved for many years in Boys' Club, CYF, and in-home bible study groups. He loved baseball. He cherished his years as a teen baseball coach and was a Dodgers' fan through and through. One dream-come-true was when he and Andy attended Dodgers games 1 and 2 during the 2017 World Series.
Julie and Barney enjoyed traveling together, especially to see their many friends and relatives. They often visited his parents Henry and Jean in southern California. One of his favorite trips was a recent mountain vacation with Kevin's family.
Barney enjoyed small town life and loved country living. His first job after moving to the area was at Alkota in Alcester. He worked for years at K-Products in Hawarden, followed by Pella Windows in Sioux Center. His favorite job of all was being "Papa" to his four grandchildren.
Barney was preceded in death by parents Henry and Jean, and father-in-law, Richard. He is survived by his wife Julie, mother-in-law June, sons Andy (Miriam) and Kevin (Megan), sisters Martha Jo, Susi (Bob) and Judi, sister-in-law Peggy (Greg), grandchildren Isaiah, Maria, Lydia, and Wesley.
