Helen A.M. Reit was born September 1, 1912 in Hawarden, IA to parents Albert and Sophie (Heuer) Klumb. She died February 13, 2010 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD at the age of 97 years, 5 months and 12 days.
Helen attended school in Hawarden. She married Marion Mike Reit on February 14, 1933. The couple farmed north of Beresford from 1933 to 1972. They moved into Beresford where they enjoyed their retirement years. Mike passed away June 30, 1994. Helen continued living in her home until August of 2007 when she moved to Bethesda of Beresford where she resided until her death.
Helen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was a past member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden and Skrefsrud Lutheran Church, rural Beresford, where she was active in Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School. Helen was currently a member of Emmanuel Lutheran in Beresford where she participated in Ladies Aid and thoroughly enjoyed getting together on Friday mornings to help fold the bulletins for Sunday services. Helens favorite quotation was I never regretted a mile I walked with the Lord. She was also a past member of Pioneer Ladies Aid and the Worthwhile Extension Club and liked to have friends and neighbors over for coffee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, one sister and one granddaughter.
Her survivors include her son Allen Butch Reit and wife LaDonna of Beresford; two granddaughters, Karla Western and husband Jeremy of Lakeville, MN and Trisha Knoell and husband John of Lincoln, NE; two great granddaughters, Brianna Knoell and Jessica Hooper; great-grandson, Austin Knoell; nephew Dale Boerma and wife Joyce of Sioux Center, IA and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Beresford, with burial to follow at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2PM to 8PM with family present from 6:30PM to 7:30 PM with a prayer service at 7:00PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
