Harvey R. Larsen was born January 7, 1919 in Beresford, SD to parents William and Kirsten (Ostenson) Larsen. He died May 19, 2008 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, SD at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 12 days. Harvey graduated from Beresford High School in 1936. He served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945 and was stationed in Europe during World War II. He married Ruth Paulsen on June 26, 1946. The couple farmed and lived in rural Beresford until 1994 when Harvey retired. They moved into Beresford in 2004 and Harvey has resided here until the present time. Harvey was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He also attended Nazareth Lutheran Church and was very active in both congregations. His hobbies and interests included horses, sports of all kinds and spending time with his wife and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Larry and Robert Larsen. His survivors include his wife Ruth of Beresford; two daughters: Diane Lundberg and husband Gary and Jan Spaans and husband Rich all of Beresford; seven grandchildren: Brian (Emily) Spaans, Sioux Falls, Jessica Lundberg, Tea, Bradley (fianc Tracie) Spaans, Sioux Falls, Mellisa Spaans, Sioux Falls, Amy Lundberg, Brookings, Erica Spaans, Sioux Falls and Andrea Spaans, Sioux Falls; great grandson Preston Spaans; and many relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Beresford, with burial at Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2PM to 8PM with family present from 7PM to 8PM and a prayer service at 7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
