Obituary

Harold I. Vostad, 57, died Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Sanford Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM Monday, June 1, 2015 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford with visitation with family one hour prior to the service in the Narthex at Emmanuel. Harold Ivan Vostad, Jr. was born on March 3, 1958 at Brookings, SD to Harold and Esther (Selland) Vostad. He was baptized at First Lutheran Church, Brookings as a baby. In 1970 Harold and Esther passed away and Harry and Clarice Elverud lovingly opened their home and hearts to Harold, Jr. and his sister, Julie and they become a part of their family in rural Volga. Harold was confirmed at First Lutheran Church, Volga. He graduated in 1976 from Sioux Valley High School. On June 24, 1978 Harold was united in marriage to Eileen Peterson. He was employed by Brookings-Lake Telephone Company for a number of years before moving to Beresford where he worked as a farm hand, raised dogs, handyman work, and for the City of Beresford at the Recycle Center and as the part-time meter reader. Harold loved the outdoors including fishing and planting a garden and he was a true dog whisperer. He is well known for his skill and talent as a gifted woodworker and handyman. Harold's God given talent is evident in every project he completed and many are blessed with his handiwork. He was a kind and generous man with an ever present smile who will be missed greatly by his family and friends. So very blessed and grateful for having shared his life are his birth sister, Julie (Wes) Oines, Beresford; his sons, Justin (Kerrie Bolzer) of Brookings and Brandon (Abby) of Sioux Falls; his favorite nephews, Matt Keiser of Sioux Falls and Thomas (Diana Podlecki) Keiser of Columbus, Nebraska; Mom, Clarice Elverud of Volga; brother, Larry (Nancy) Elverud; sisters, Kathy (Jerry) Nusz of Sioux Falls, Cyndi (Clyde) Ulvestad of Volga, Mary (Dave Dickson) Albright of Rapid City; Five grandchildren, Liv Vostad, Trenton Vostad, Rori Vostad, Azarya Vostad, Remington Vostad, and a grandson this coming September; special Aunt, Leona (Dean) Krogmann of Brookings; Aunt, Ruth Vostad of Brookings; numerous cousins, his ex-wife and friend, Eileen Schlotman of Aurora; and a host of good friends and buddies. He was predeceased by his birth parents, Harold and Esther Vostad, Dad Harry Elverud and his Grandparents and Aunts and Uncles.
