Harold Fredrick Holmberg was born April 12, 1913 at the family homestead in rural Centerville, SD to parents Fredrick and Lena (Kundert) Holmberg. He died May 12, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Center in Centerville, SD at the age of 93 years and 30 days. Harold attended Morning Star School District #79 and graduated from Centerville High School. He married Ella Bennington on July 1, 1933 and from this union one daughter, Patricia Anne was born. Ella passed away on October 9, 1936. Harold farmed in the rural Centerville area. He married Kathaleen Logue on February 11, 1938 at the Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Centerville. From this union, one daughter, S. Kay was born. Harold was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He worked for area farmers and delivered fuel for the Motor Inn Garage for many years. After retirement, Harold mowed lawns for many local residents and enjoyed having coffee with his friends at the bakery. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ella, two brothers, one sister and special granddaughter, Emily Erickson. Grateful to have shared his life are his wife of 68 years, Kathaleen Holmberg of Centerville; two daughters: Patricia Weeks and husband Harrison of Beresford and S. Kay Hand and husband Doug of Dayton, Ohio; 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and special grandson Darrin Erickson. Funeral services will be 2PM, Wednesday, May 17 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church with burial at Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2PM to 5PM at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville and resuming at 6:30PM with a wake service at 7PM at Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
