Obituary

Harold Russel Clay was born October 8, 1920 on the family farm north of Beresford to parents Russel and Mabel (Young) Clay. He died February 18, 2011 at Bethesda of Beresford at the age of 90 years, four months and 10 days.

Harold attended Lincoln Grade School, three years at Pioneer High School and graduated from Beresford High School in 1938. He completed two years at Grand Island Business School in Grand Island, NE. He returned to the farm and married Doris Kram on June 11, 1944 at the Congregational Church in Beresford. He held several offices in the church.

Harold served as Lincoln County Assessor and was on the Lincoln Township Board for many years. He was on the Pioneer School Board, Co-op Service Association Board and was a past member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

Harold sold seed corn for various companies and he and Doris were given a 50 Year Farming award. Harolds heart was in farming and he enjoyed his family.

Grateful for sharing his life is his wife, Doris, of 66 years; two sons, Darrel (Joyce) and Duane (Marlys) all of Beresford; daughter, Sharon (James) Miller of Mandan, ND; nine grandchildren, Brian (Tonya) Miller of Morgan Hill, CA, Kevin Miller of Chicago, IL, Nathan (Cassie) Miller of Omaha, NE, Crystal Clay, South Sioux City, NE, Dr. Kyla (Daniel) Knutson, Stacey (Randy) Namminga of Beresford, SD, Stephanie (Ryan) James of Pickerington, OH, Lindsay (Shane) Zylstra of Everly, IA and Ryan Clay of Beresford; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, George R. (Dolores) Clay of Beresford and sister-in-law, Violet Wehde of Sioux Falls.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, David Russel; his parents; two brothers, Howard and Ralph and two sisters, Ardes Macdonald and Ardel Calvert.

Funeral services will be 11AM Tuesday, Feb, 22, 2011 at the Beresford United Church of Christ. Visitation will be 2-7PM Monday at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with the family present from 5-7PM and a prayer service at 7PM.
