Grace Evangeline Kylling Kennedy was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on March 4, 1930 to Anna and Ludvig Kylling. She died on Mother's Day, May 13, 2012 at the age of 82. After spending her childhood on a farm in Lincoln County, she graduated from Beresford High School. Grace received a degree in Music Education from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and later received a Master's Degree from the University of South Dakota. Following her years of education, Grace moved back to Beresford where her five children were raised. She dedicated her professional life to teaching music and English in the Beresford School System and has also shared her musical gifts with her church as organist and choir director for many years. Grace gave piano lessons until the day before her final hospitalization. Her greatest joys were her children and her music, which were the cornerstones of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Marie Millsap, Olive Kylling, Eleanor Lass, Ardis Harvey, Lillian Jelinek, a brother, Ludvig Jr. (Bud), and a grandson, Timothy Carlson. She is survived by her children Ann Kennedy(Val), Jane Carlson(Lee), Kim Kennedy(Elaine),Lee Kennedy(Gerry), and Steven Kennedy(Diane), eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren ,nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Grace was a remarkable mother and grandmother. She made a difference in the lives of many. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 18th, at 11:00 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. Visitation will be at Romsdal Lutheran Church, rural Beresford, on Thursday evening, May 17th from 6-8 with a prayer service at 7:00.
