Obituary

Gordon was born March 11, 1925 the son of Albert and Esther (Larson) Larson. He died April 14, 2008 at Avera Heart Hospital at the age of 83 years, one month and two days. He attended school at Danefield rural and Beresford High Schools. He served honorably in the US Army during World War II and the occupation of Japan and was a member of Legion Post 72. Gordon was united in marriage to Phyllis Ostrem on June 21, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Centerville. They farmed in the Beresford area until moving to Beresford in 1986 where Gordon was able to devote his full time efforts to GL Custom Speakers, operating out of his red barn. GL Custom Speakers evolved from his love of electronics and woodworking. He built his first HI-FI system in the late 1950s, moving on to stereo and surround-sound systems. Gordon built and installed many sound systems, cabinets and cupboards in many homes, churches and businesses in the area. His green and white Chevy Van became the GL trademark. Gordon was a lifelong member of Komstad Covenant Church and the church was a big part of his life where he served in numerous positions. He was on the school boards of Ellis White of rural Centerville and Danefield School of rural Beresford. Gordon enjoyed singing in the church choir, with quartets and singing duets with his wife, Phyllis. He is survived by his wife Phyllis; five children, Linda (Tom) Erickson of Beresford, Jerrine Worley Ostenson of Eden Prairie, MN, Chuck (Diane) Larson of Beresford, Greg (Sharron) Larson of Beresford, and Gail (Craig) Andersen of Centerville; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alvina (Willis) Morse of Elk Point and special niece, Marlene (Bill) Schoen of Sioux Falls and many nieces and nephews. His parents, granddaughter, Kayla and sisters, Ruby (Bill) Sundleaf and Dorothy (Oswin) Larson preceded him in death. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Komstad Covenant Church, rural Beresford. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. and the family present from 7:00-8:00 p.m.
