Glen Peterson completed his heavenward journey on August 30, 2008 at Morningside Care Center in Alcester, South Dakota. He had attained the age of 96 years, eight months and two days.
Glen Ivan Peterson was born December 28, 1911 to Peter T. and Jessie (Parnell) Peterson in Hanson County, rural Mitchell, SD. He was one of nine children. Glen attended country school completing the eighth grade. He enlisted in the US Army on Sept. 27, 1937. During his military life he served in the South Pacific and the front line in Germany during WWII. He was honorably discharged on July 7, 1945.
Upon returning to Alcester he met Roxie Rust. They were married on August 20, 1946 in Broadus, MT. They returned to Alcester where Glen held a variety of jobs including 25 years at Larsen Drug Store. Roxie passed away on July 26, 1986.
Glen enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards and was an avid reader. He was a member of the United Church of Christ, Alcester Senior Citizens and was a lifetime member of the Alcester VFW Post 6149. Glen was a true gentleman who was kind and generous. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his stepdaughter, Shirlee Jenkins of Alcester; one sister, Evelyn Reid of Boscobel, WI; special friend, Lillian Solbue of Alcester, nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Lena; wife, Roxie; son-in-law, Clifton Jenkins; four brothers, Vernon, Lorris, Harry 'Whimpy' and Clarence in infancy; and three sisters, Marie, Irene and Lila.
The family requests memorials to the Alcester Senior Citizen Furnace Fund.
