Gerald Landeen, age 69, of Beresford, SD died peacefully at his home Monday, November 4, 2019. Visitation with the family present is 6-8PM Friday, Nov. 8th at Komstad Covenant Church, rural Beresford with a prayer service at 7PM. Funeral services will be 2PM Saturday, Nov. 9th at Komstad Covenant Church with burial to follow at Danefield Cemetery.
Gerald Dean Landeen was born October 22, 1950 in Sioux Falls, SD to John and Doris (Nielsen) Landeen. He passed peacefully in his home on November 4, 2019, at the age of 69. After graduating from Beresford High School in 1968, he joined the South Dakota Air National Guard. He met Shelly Austin of Centerville and they were united in marriage on August 29, 1976. They had five children together. Gerald and Shelly raised horses and frequently went on wagon trains with the family. They also enjoyed camping and visiting family in the Black Hills.
Along with farming, milking cows and raising livestock, Gerald, worked road construction throughout his life until his retirement in 2016. After retiring, he co-owned My Bar and continued to help his sons on the farm. Gerald was confirmed and attended Komstad Covenant Church in rural Beresford and was a member of the American Legion.
Gerald was preceded in death by his father, John: mother, Doris; and father-in-law, Lester Austin.
Those thankful to have shared his life include his wife of 43 years, Shelly; children, Amy (Nathan) Peterson, Phoenix, AZ, Ann (Jarrod) Johnson, Beresford, Amber (Bryan) Paulsen, Beresford, John Landeen (Shawnna Davis), Irene, and Joe (Kylee) Landeen, Beresford; grandchildren, Jordyn & Aidan Johnson, Christian Anderson, Cooper Landeen and Evelyn Landeen; mother-in-law, Rose Marie Austin; sisters, Karen (Bill) Rush and Colleen (DeLynn) Stene; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
