Garrett Martin Hartsock

October 9, 2003 — April 22, 2026

Beresford

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we share the sudden passing of our son Garrett Martin Hartsock, on April 22, 2026, at the young age of 22. Garrett was born October 9, 2003, in Sioux Falls, SD. Garrett fought a courageous fight since birth. Despite early health issues he grew up being a very happy go-lucky young man. He was always a “glass half full” type of person.

For anyone who got to know Garrett, he was shy, kind, and had a great sense of humor. He loved the Cubs baseball team, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and playing video games. He enjoyed working at the elementary school after graduating from Beresford High School in 2022. Garrett was very well loved with an infectious laugh and smile.

Since birth, Garrett had been fighting an uphill battle for his life. He has gotten to know many Doctors and nurses throughout Sanford and Mayo Clinic, and after receiving a kidney transplant at 16yrs old, many rejections would cause the transplant to fail. Garrett was undergoing home hemodialysis and awaiting another transplant at the time of his passing.

Garrett is survived by his parents, Jerry and Sandra Hartsock; his siblings, Logan and Alyssa Hartsock; his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Van Emmerik and several aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. Garrett was predeceased by his paternal grandparents Harlan and Dorothy Hartsock and maternal grandfather Ronald Van Emmerik.

Visitation will take place at the Wass Funeral Home in Beresford, SD, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate the beautiful life he lived.

Garrett would want you to wear comfortable clothes and/or any sports apparel.
