A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 16 at Wass Funeral Home, Beresford, SD. It was Frieda's wish to donate her body to the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. Her burial will take place at a later date.
Frieda DeJong was born Dec. 23, 1932, at home in Buffalo Township, Colton, SD to George and Anna (Bethlehem) DeJong, the sixth of nine siblings. After attending grade school, she worked in several homes as a mother's helper and later obtained her GED and took college credits in Child Development. She met the love of her life, Wilbur Bos, and they were united in marriage on April 8, 1952 at her parents' home near Dell Rapids, SD. They had two children, George and Susan, and three foster children, John, Julie, and Jade. They later adopted Jade. They also hosted a German exchange student, Inge Eitel Schaible, for one year. Frieda was a lifelong homemaker and excelled as a fast worker at Coil Craft and K Products in Hawarden, IA. She also worked as a school cook and conservator for families in Hawarden.

She enjoyed camping with Wilbur, gardening, sewing and quilting, baking bread, and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She sewed well over 4000 diapers and pillowcase sundresses for babies and girls in Haiti. She was a regular blood donor and donated over 15 gallons in her lifetime. She enjoyed attending garage sales and auctions, accumulating many collections. She also took several art classes and produced her own art in multiple media, including watercolors, charcoals, pencils and oils. She painted ceramic miniatures and steins for all of her grandchildren.
