Franklin D. Kumm was born at home March 29, 1942 in Brazile Mills, Nebraska. He died December 28, 2024 at the Centerville Care & Rehab Center at the age of 82 years, eight months and 29 days.

Frank attended country school through the 8th grade and his freshman year in Nebraska then came to South Dakota and graduated from Wakonda High School. He went to work for the SD Department of Highways for four years then started working for area farmers until he started farming on his own.

He married Marabeth Olson August 11, 1963 at Dalesburg Lutheran Church. Frank served on the Garfield Township Board, the Dalesburg Lutheran Church Council and the Dalesburg Cemetery Board. After Frank quit farming, he was the road maintainer operator for two townships. He and Marabeth moved into Beresford in 2009.

"Bud" as he was known by his family, loved having coffee with the guys at Truck Towne, Bertz and Jet Truck Plaza. He had large toy tractor and Kent Feed collections.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marabeth Kumm of Beresford; daughter, JoAnn (Tom) Taylor of Vermillion; grandchildren, James (Sara) Taylor and Stephanie (Steven) Melancon; great-grandchildren, Gabe and Issac Taylor and Emmie, Weston and Lucas Melancon; his brothers, Bob (Cheryl Arends) Larson and Jim (Evelyn) Hansen; one sister, Judy Lundberg; brother-in-law, Curtis (Lynda) Olson; special friends, Donna Austin, Brendyn and Isaiah Richards and Witt and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Frank is preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Kumm; daughter, Andrea Kumm; brothers-in-law, Larry (Joyce) Olson, Charles Olson and Merle Lundberg; his mother and step-father, Eva and Mike Hansen and his in-laws, Chester and Avis Olson.

Funeral services will be 10:30AM Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Dalesburg Lutheran Church, 30595 University Rd, Vermillion, SD 57069. Visitation will be 5-7PM Wednesday at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with a 7PM prayer service.
