Francis Ferdinand Loneman was born December 9, 1929 near Armour in Douglas County, South Dakota to parents Herman and Susie (Conzemius) Loneman. He died November 30, 2011 at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg, SD at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 21 days. Francis attended rural schools and graduated from Armour High School in 1947. He attended summer school for three years and taught in Charles Mix County during that time. He returned to Southern State Teacher's College on a full time basis until he entered the United States Army in 1952. Upon his discharge he returned home and started farming. He also taught at many schools in rural Douglas County. He also taught in Geddes, Armour, Fairfax and Choteau Creek rural school. He married Alice Thormodsgaard on July 16, 1978. The couple bought a hardware store in Hawarden, IA and operated it until 1985. They lived in Dupree, SD for one year and then moved to New Mexico where they taught at several schools until retiring. Francis and Alice moved to Centerville in 2007. Francis was baptized and confirmed at St. George Catholic Church in Armour, SD and was currently a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Centerville. He was also a member of the Centerville American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. Francis enjoyed working in his yard, woodworking, finishing furniture, photography and traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Virgil and Leo Loneman, and sister-in-law Gertrude Loneman. He is survived by his dear wife Alice Loneman of Centerville; sister Mary Turnis and husband Joe of Platte, SD; sister-in-law Pat Loneman of Corsica, SD; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Centerville, with burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Spink, SD. Visitation will be Friday at the church from 6PM to 8PM with a prayer service at 7PM.
