Obituary

Francis Milton Jacobson was born November 24, 1916 to John and Dora (Hansen) Jacobson on their farm in Union County, SD. He died November 11, 2006 in Alcester at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 17 days. Francis attended school at Brule for four years prior to his family moving to Clark County. They farmed there until the death of his father, at which time they moved to Beresford. Francis got a job at Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Company in Middle River, MD. He was foreman in his department making B-26 Bombers during WWII. Francis married Eleanor Koller on August 18, 1945 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Baltimore. In the spring of 1953, he and his family moved to Alcester, SD where he started farming. His skill at building and maintaining his farm equipment has been well appreciated. During the last years farming, Francis and Eleanor built a house for their retirement that started in 1978. Francis continued his hobbies of traveling and woodworking in retirement. He was well known for the clocks that he built. There are several grandfather clocks and smaller clocks around the country for which he is well remembered. He is a long time member of Roseni Lutheran Church; he supported the church with his time and work. Due to declining health, he and Eleanor moved to an apartment in Beresford in 2004, and eventually to Morningside Care Center in Alcester. Eleanor preceded him in death September 26, 2005. Also preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters, Ethel and Ardeth, and three brothers, Lowell, Lyle and Howard. Francis is survived by his three sons, Loren (Linette) of Colorado, Ralph (Linda) of Minnesota and Dean of Beresford; five grandchildren, Lisa, Lonny, Amanda, Jesse and Staci; four great-grandchildren, Emily, Brandon, Christopher and Hannah. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006 at Roseni Lutheran Church, rural Beresford. The family will be present from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
