Ferne E. Olson was born on January 24, 1930 in rural Centerville, South Dakota to Sigvold and Ruth (Peterson) Knudson.  She died January 1, 2021 at Bethesda in Beresford, SD at the age of 90 years, 11 months and seven days.

Ferne was raised near Centerville where she attended country school and graduated from Centerville High School.  Ferne married Delmer J. Olson on September 1, 1949 at Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville.  She and Delmer made their life on the farm in rural Beresford, South Dakota.  Ferne was a member of the Scandia Lutheran Church where she was active in Circle and the Ladies Aid.

Ferne liked to entertain in her home and will be remembered as a great baker and cook.  She made it her duty to always have home-baked goods ready for family or company, and brought meals to Delmer and David as they worked on their farm.   She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting many gifts for family.  Together, Ferne and Delmer enjoyed travelling to visit family.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband of 71 years, Delmer; an infant son, Todd; two brothers, Stanley Knudson and Ralph Knudson; her sister, Marilyn Anderson and an infant sister, Lorraine Knudson.

She is survived by her son, David (Dianna) Olson of Beresford; daughter, Tammy (Mike) Hiller of Key Largo, FL; four grandchildren, Tonya (Kyle) Hansen, Ryan (Amber) Olson, Brendan Hiller and Emily Hiller; four great-grandchildren, Caroline, Melody, Colt and Roper; her brother, Delmer (Arlene) Knudson of Beresford and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Scandia Lutheran Church in Centerville, SD with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery.  The service will be live streamed on the Scandia Lutheran Church Facebook page and the church encourages wearing a mask during the service.  Visitation with the family present will be 4:30-6:00PM Monday, Jan. 4th at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
