Obituary

Ferne Arlene Anderson was born on December 17, 1931 in Clearbrook, Minnesota, and passed away peacefully in Viborg, SD on March 30, 2014 surrounded by many of her children and grandchildren with the music of her treasured Statler Brothers playing softly in the background. Since 2012 she had been residing at the Centerville Assisted Living. The fourth child of Edna (Parker) and Walter Staehnke she grew up on a farm and went to school in Bemidji, MN, Forman and Havana, ND. She married Walter Sedler Jr in 1948 and lived on a farm near Havana, North Dakota where they raised their five children. In 1965 she married Nels Christian Anderson of Bristol, South Dakota where they had three daughters and owned Anderson Electric and later the Hideaway Lounge where they were famous for their charcoal broiled steaks. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, VFW, and a member of the Bristol School Board. In her later years, she loved to read and crochet afghans for all in her immediate family. Ferne's life was all about family, food and fun. She was at her happiest at the countless family gatherings with as many of her family around her as possible, cooking, playing the piano, singing, and enjoying those specials moments. She was strong willed, some would even say stubborn, and loved to tell people that "nobody tells a Parker girl what to do." Her culinary skills were a point of pride for her and her family especially enjoyed her gigantic Swedish tea ring hot from the oven. She is survived by her 8 children Pam (Doug) Voss of Centerville, SD, Deb Parker of Rochester, MN, Paulette (Gerry) Beemiller of Sunol, CA, Ted (Melanie) Sedler of Beaverton, OR, Jill (Bob) Neiderheiser of Omaha, NE, Kellie (Mike) Schultz of Brandon, SD, Darcie (Jeff) Langbehn of Wolsey, SD, and Natalie (Greg) King of Worthing, SD as well as 19 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, siblings Shirley (Chester) Lee of Watford City, ND, and David (Judy) of the Dalles, OR and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nels, her parents, siblings Betty Peterson, Enid Parrow, Neil and Bill Staehnke. A Celebration of Life will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
