Fern Mae Vermillion was born May 28, 1922, in Viborg, South Dakota to Fred and Ella (Jensen) Frederickson. She died August 21, 2017, at Bethesda of Beresford at the age of 95 years.
Fern attended Viborg school and worked at the local creamery during her senior year. She married the love of her life, William (Bill) F. Vermillion, on November 2, 1945. They moved to Beresford, SD, where they made their home. Fern later took a job as a dental assistant for Dr. John Ullmann for many years. She and Bill were blessed with a son, Neal, who was later called home to his Lord in 1958, at the age of 11. One of her many passions was when she and Bill opened a ladies ready-to-where store, and named it Fern's Fashions!
She was a member of the Beresford Zion United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Ladies Auxiliary, and her childhood church, First Baptist church in Viborg, SD.
Fern will be remembered for her love of family, friends, faith and honor of military service.
Survivors include her nephew, John (Paulette) Frederickson; nieces, Mary Frederickson and Patricia Hauk; Bill's nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and nephews and numerous special friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. (Bill) Vermillion; her 11 year old son, Neal Frederick Vermillion; her twin brother, Ferris Frederickson; and nephew, Greg Frederickson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2017, at the Beresford Zion United Methodist Church. Burial will be 1:00 p.m., at Rosehill Cemetery in Viborg. Visitation will be held Friday from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.at the church.
