Fay Ellen Rusten, age 96, died Sunday, April 30, 2006 at Bethesda of Beresford. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 4th at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford with the family present from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Fay Ellen Duncan Rusten was born February 21, 1910 in LeMar, Missouri to parents Samuel and Fay Lillian (Hatfield) Duncan. She died on April 30, 2006 at Bethesda of Beresford at the age of 96 years, two months and nine days. At the age of 10, Fay moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she received her education and was baptized in the Baptist church. She began her career as a fashion designer and seamstress and in 1936 she moved to California where she resumed her career. Fay sewed many outfits for her neighbors and friends. On February 9, 1945 she married Palmer Rusten in Pasadena. They lived in Encino, California until they moved to Beresford in 1974. Palmer died October 19, 1992. Following his death, Fay continued to live in Beresford. Both Fay and Palmer were instrumental in establishing the meal program at the Beresford Senior Citizens where she was active for many years. She was a member of the Eagles for 57 years, while in California she performed with the Eagles Drill Team. Fay enjoyed quilting and was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Many nieces, nephews and friends survive her. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Palmer, six brothers, and four sisters.
