Evonne M. Frieberg was born November 3, 1936 in rural Clay County, SD to parents Carroll and Irene (Willey) Hansen. She died June 12, 2007 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Beresford, South Dakota at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 10 days. Evonne attended Prairie Center rural school and graduated from Beresford High School in 1954. She earned her teaching certificate from the University of South Dakota and began working for the Centerville School. She married Robert Frieberg on June 4, 1957. The couple lived in Boston, MA for one year and returned to Centerville where Evonne resumed teaching. They moved to El Paso, TX where Bob was stationed with the US Army and lived there for two years. They moved to Beresford in 1963 and have resided there until the present time. Evonne was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was currently a member of the United Church of Christ in Beresford. She was an active member and served the church in various roles on the local, state and national levels. Evonne was a proud and devoted member of the Beresford Community and was involved in several groups and committees. She was the Vice President of the Beresford Area Community Foundation, belonged to the 20th Century Study Club, and had served on the School Board and the Bethesda Nursing Home Board of Directors. She received the Beresford Citizen of the Year award in 2002. Bob and Evonne were recently honored by the USD Foundation with the Inman Award for their service and dedication to The U. She supported Bob with the many boards and committees he was involved with and often traveled with him to those events. Evonne enjoyed cross-stitch, knitting, gardening and had traveled much of the world with Bob. She loved sports, followed her childrens and grandchildrens events and was an avid fan of the USD Coyotes and the Boston Red Sox. She was preceded in death by her parents. Her survivors include her husband Robert of Beresford; daughter Susan (Randall) Jensen, Beresford; two sons: Charles (Diane), Yankton and Thomas (Jill), Beresford; 13 grandchildren: Sarah, Amy, and Michael Jensen, Liezel, Kyle, Kimberly, and Christopher Frieberg, Jess Bakker, Amber Leafstedt, Daniel Frieberg, and Caleb, Carter and Carli Johnke; 1 great grandson Dominick; and many other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Beresford Area Community Foundation, PO Box 84, Beresford, SD 57004. Memorial services will be held 2:00PM, Friday, June 15 at the United Church of Christ in Beresford. Visitation with family present will be Thursday from 5PM to 7PM at the United Church of Christ.
