Evelyn Violet Redden was born on April 7, 1940 in Canton, SD to William and Evelyn (Ruud) Kooiman. She died Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Ava's House in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 81 years. She and her twin sister, Elaine Violet (Kooiman) Stevens spent their early childhood in the Canton and northwest Iowa areas. Due to their mother's illness and subsequent death from tuberculosis, the twins moved to Glenwood, Iowa to attend a state school. As an adult, she worked in the laundry industry. Evelyn married Auburn Redden on August 8, 1981 in Omaha, Nebraska. After her husband's death, the twins shared an apartment in Omaha. In 2013, they moved to Beresford, SD to be closer to their niece and her husband, Connie and Randy Schmidt.
Evelyn cherished spending time with her family. She enjoyed her Chihuahua, Lucky, the color red, horses, listening to country music, and embroidering. She once said the best thing about moving to Beresford was being able to attend family gatherings and going to her great-nephew's sporting/school related activities. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, she was a regular attendee at Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church, where she treasured her church family.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Rhonda Kooiman of Elk Point, SD; brother-in-law, Gene Fauth of Sioux Falls, SD; half-sister, Jennie Maassen of Rock Valley, IA; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and special friends, Doreen and Pete Fahlberg of Beresford.
Preceding her in death were her parents, William and Evelyn Kooiman; her twin sister, Elaine Stevens; four brothers, Bill Kooiman, Ronald Kooiman, Jim Kooiman, and Dennis Kooiman; half-sisters, Gertrude Fauth, Corneal Lusk, and Mina DeBruin; sisters-in-law, Clazina Kooiman and Joyce Kooiman; and brothers-in-law, Pete DeBruin and Marinus Maassen.
Many thanks to the staff from Right At Home and AseraCare Hospice whose care allowed Evelyn to remain in her home. A special thanks to the staff at Ava's House for keeping her comfortable in her final days.
Funeral services will be 10AM Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
