Eunice Sunde Oakland, 86, passed away in her home in Centerville SD on March 10, 2010. She was born to Oscar and Judith (Groseth) Sunde near Corsica SD on September 9, 1923. She married Vandal Oakland in Centerville SD on June 1, 1944.

Grateful for having shared her life are her three daughters Cheryl (Chuck) Oster, Centerville SD, Paulette (Tom) Onken, Sioux Falls SD and Nancy (Lance) Brekke, Baltic SD, eight grandchildren, Christen (Tom) Cunningham, Tyler, Cory, Carleigh, Centerville SD, Chad (Jenny) Oster, Chloe, Jory, Fort Collins CO, Charles (Farah) Oster, Megan, Cole, Castle Rock, CO, Nicole (Mitch) McDonald, Minneapolis MN, Natalie Onken, Sioux Falls SD, Frank Olson, Sean Olson, Hudson FL, Cedric Olson, Baltic SD. Other survivors include one sister, Joyce (Ray) Engh, Sioux Falls SD, one brother Gordon (Betty) Sunde, Nixo MO, one sister-in-law Ada Oakland, Soux Falls SD and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents and a sister, Clarice Bak.

Eunice was baptized at Ebenezer Lutheran Church and attended DeLange Country School for eight years. She attended ninth grade at Harrison SD and her sophomore year at Stickney SD. After the death of her father, Eunices family moved to Centerville SD where she was confirmed at Scandia Lutheran Church and graduated from Centerville High School in 1941. She received her teaching certificate from Southern State Normal School in Springfield SD after which she taught country school in the Centerville area for two years.

She has always had a love for music being Scandia Choir Director for over 50 years, playing piano and organ at church, local nursing homes and community events, member of Twentieth Century Club, and WELCA. Eunice spent many enjoyable years at Schmiedt Drug.

Visitation will be at Scandia Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Centerville SD on Friday March 12,2010 from 4 PM 8 PM with family present from 6 PM 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM. Funeral Service will be Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 2 PM at Scandia Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, rural Centerville.
