Eugene Francis Lass was born August 8, 1923, near Beresford in rural Union County, SD to parents James and Frances (Kukar) Lass. He died March 5, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Lake Norden, SD at 90 years of age. Gene graduated from Beresford High School in 1941. He farmed and lived in rural Beresford until December of 1955 when he married Constance Tollefson. The couple moved to southern Idaho where Gene farmed, raised sheep and operated a trucking business. In 1974 they moved to Brookings where he continued farming and trucking. He retired in the mid 1990's and continued to reside in the Brookings area until the present time. Gene enjoyed farming and being outdoors. He would often go for drives in the countryside to admire the crops and be close to the land. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Raymond and two sisters, Marjorie and Donna. He is survived by his wife Connie Lass, Brookings; two daughters, Cynthia Lass, Brookings and Sandra Lass and her husband Jim Allensworth, Laguna Niguel, CA; four sisters, Pat Teeman, Sioux Falls, Mary Pilker, Sioux Falls, Joan Duffy, Oldham, and Karen Lounsbery, Beresford; and many nieces, nephews and relatives. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, March 10, 2014 at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Beresford with burial to follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, rural Beresford. Visitation will be Sunday from 2PM to 5PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
