Esther Wilma Berg, age 84, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on June 16, 2020. Esther Hartman was born on August 17, 1935 to Harry and Annie (Beckman) Hartman. She was the youngest of nine children. Esther graduated from Alcester High School. She then worked at the Corner Café in Alcester with her mother from the late 1950's to the 1980's when Annie passed away. Esther then continued to operate the café until they sold it in the late 1980's.
Esther was united in marriage to Robert Berg on September 24, 1955. They lived in Alcester all of their lives until moving to Sioux Falls in the spring of 2018 due to health concerns. Esther enjoyed card games, bingo, motorcycling, fishing and trying her luck at the casinos. She had a love for RV'ing, mainly traveling during the winter for many years to Mesa and Casa Grande, AZ and Bandera, TX. She enjoyed socializing with friends and family. She was also a long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Alcester,
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Robert, Sioux Falls, SD; sons, Kenneth (fiancé Lori Horstman) Berg, Sioux Falls, SD, Brian (Kathy) Berg, Sioux Falls, SD and Tim (Deb) Berg, Rapid City, SD; sisters, Mary Jean Rogness, Florence Green and Fern Peterson; grandchildren, April (Vinny) McCormick, Ashley (Wade) Hargreaves, Jasmine (Rory) Stone, Keith Berg and Eric Berg; great-grandchildren, Logan, Liddy, Lauren and Lainey Hargreaves. She was preceded in death by her parents, twin infant sons, Keith and Calvin Berg; brothers, Edward Hartman, Marvin Hartman and Norman Hartman; and sisters, Shirley McVay and Lillian Hall.
Esther's family wishes to thank the many individuals who cared for Esther, especially her niece, Judy Hodne, of Sioux Falls, SD.
Please join us in celebrating Esther's life in her beloved town of Alcester. Funeral services will be held at 2PM on June 20, 2020 at Peace Lutheran Church with burial following at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7PM Friday, June 19th at Wass Funeral Home in Alcester, SD. Memorials may be directed to Peace Lutheran Church, 309 E 2 nd Street, Alcester, SD 57001.
