Ervin Stevens was born to William and Nellie (Windmeyer) Stevens in Centerville, SD January 9, 1928. He died in Viborg, SD August 14, 2013 at the age of 85 years, seven months and five days. He was raised in the Centerville area and graduated from Centerville High School. Ervin married Lois Hillrichs on November 28, 1948. He served in the US Army and they farmed south of Centerville until 1959 when they moved north of Centerville. He did custom baling for area farmers, shelled corn and raised livestock. In the early 1970's Ervin started doing construction and demolition work with his pay loader. Many people know him as "Big Bucket". Ervin and Lois spent several winters in Texas. Ervin was a member of Immanuel Free Lutheran Church and the American Legion of Centerville. He liked hunting and fishing in his youth but in recent years enjoyed attending auctions and reading. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Eva Shafer, brother, Ernie Stevens, sister-in-law, Cornelia Hillrichs, four brothers-in-law, Stanley Richard, Lowell Hillrichs, Robert Hillrichs and Donnie Hillrichs, and three nephews, Allan Stevens, Randy Hillrichs and Mark Hillrichs. Survivors include his wife, Lois Stevens; son, David (Cheryl) Stevens of Centerville; two grandchildren, Mike (Laura) Stevens of Viborg and Deb (Tim) Walburg of Madison; four great-grandchildren, Evan and Kirsten Stevens and Katlyn and Alex Walburg. Also surviving is his sister, Alice Richard of Washburn, ND; two brothers, Clarence (Margaret) Stevens of Beresford and Arnold (Carolyn) Stevens of Vermillion. Funeral services will be 1:30PM Monday, August 19, 2013 at Immanuel Free Lutheran Church, rural Centerville. Visitation is 3-8PM Sunday at Wass Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 5-7PM and a prayer service at 7PM.
